In Tibet you can find mani rocks or mani stones everywhere you go. Most of the time the mantra “OM MANI PADME HUM” is carved into the stones, sometimes it is painted. This mantra is the most prevalent in Tibet. People repeat it silently or aloud to themselves to purify any negative karma and increase their merit. It is a sanskrit mantra and is associated with the Boddhisatva of Compassion, Avalokiteshvara. Each syllable purifies the six realms of existence.
- “Om” purifies pride
- “Ma” purifies jealousy
- “Ni” purifies desire
- “Pad” purifies ignorance, prejudice
- “Me” purifies poverty, possessiveness
- “Hung” purifies hatred, anger
By reciting the mantra regularly you can purify all delusions and increase your merit. Browse through many different designs and find the one that’s right for you. They make a beautiful addition to your altar but can also be placed in your yard, flower pots, or desk. Because mani stones are sacred items, all profit of their sales go to support the teachings of the Dharma.
